I’m not fundamentally opposed to us getting 20% of our heating from natural gas. My concern with this approach is just the cost. If we are maintaining our gas grid, keeping on installing gas-capable appliances, but spreading the fixed costs on a lot less volume, it starts to get really expensive. Maybe there’s a balance, where certain regions have lots of gas and most regions have virtually none?

Something I don’t understand — plenty of far colder countries (eg Norway) use heat pumps without a problem. Are these running at a COP of 1? or are they ground source?
